How to Make a Plastic Bottle Mosquito Trap

Four Parts:
1.Cutting the bottle
2.Charging the bottle with chemicals
3.Assembling the bottle
4.Replacing the chemicals
This article will tell you how to make a mosquito trap out of a plastic bottle. The ingredients will charge one trap for 10-14 days. You may want to place multiple traps around your house or property.

Ingredients:

200 milliliters of water
50 grams of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast

  • Put 200 ml of water into the bottle.

    Measure from the water line to the top of the bottle.

Divide your measurement by two and subtract 3 cm (1").

Measure from the top of the bottle down this distance and make a mark.

 6.Cut carefully along the guide line until the bottle is in two sections.

Retain both parts of the bottle.

Part 2 of 4: Charging the bottle with chemicals

 1.Mix 50 grams of brown sugar with 200 milliliters of hot water. Allow the mixture to cool.Make a Plastic Bottle Mosquito Trap Step 9.jpg

Add 1 gram of yeast, but do not mix. This will produce carbon dioxide

Part 3 of 4: Assembling the bottle

If not, empty a bit of the solution so that the adult mosquito will be able to fly in and not drown in the liquid.Make a Plastic Bottle Mosquito Trap Step 13.jpg 3.Secure the cut edges with three or four pieces of clear tape.
Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2 (Carbon dioxide) released by animals while breathing. The Yeast will make CO2 and fool the insects. As they fly in, their behavior becomes weakness: All mosquitoes are known to fly near the corners of a closed area, so they keep flying in the sections Above the Part where the bottle is open, and Die slowly because of suffocation or because of inability to get food.

Tips

  • Use a lighter to gently melt the cut edges for a more finished look and less dangerous edges.
  • Place the bottle near windows or where there is good circulation of fresh air.

Things You will neeed


  • 1 two liter plastic bottle per trap
  • Box cutter, utility knife, or scissors
  • Tape
  • Lighter (optional)
